Questioning Strategy

Our newest comprehension strategy is questioning.  We are learning that in order to understand our reading better, we need to ask questions about what we read.  It is important to do this before, during, and after our reading.  It helps us think about the text and see if we are actually understanding it.
We read two books that led us to many outstanding questions.  For each book, we used post-it notes to record the questions we were wondering.  The first book was new to all of us, The Island of Skog.  Just the title and cover alone had us asking LOTS of questions!  The second book, Goin' Someplace Special, was an inspirational book about courage during hard times.  Since we had schema on segregation, we had many questions to ask before, during, and after the reading.  We had so may questions, we couldn't even fit them on the paper!
