Research with Chromebooks
We had some amazing helpers in our classroom who taught us how to research using Chromebooks. It was a new piece of technology for us, but Mrs. Schieber's students did a great job teaching us how to find information on our presidents. We liked the Chromebooks a lot and hope to try them again soon!
Comparing & Contrasting
We are now experts at comparing and contrasting! To learn what this skill was all about, we used our own A.W. and W.O. to get us started. Then, we each got a partner and found similarities and differences. We learned a lot of new things about each other!
To continue practicing this new skill, we read a classic fairy tale, Cinderella, and a twist on it, Cindy Ellen. Even though we thought they would be very different from one another, we found a lot of similarities!

Mentor Sentences
Hi this is A.K. and Z.H.! We are teaching about mentor sentences. Mrs Anklam picks a sentence from a book usually from read aloud and writes it on the board for us to write in our notebooks. We look for verbs, adjectives, nouns, subject, predicate, punctuation, capital letters, and Fundations stuff. It helps us write better.
Thank you bye!

- We went to the library to find books that would help us research our topic.
- We used iPads to find information that wasn't in our books.
Stay tuned for our finished books!

Prefix Fun
While we have done a lot of practice with suffixes, prefixes are something new. We have learned they are very similar, except prefixes come before a word and suffixes come after. Many of the familiar words we know are able to get a prefix added and become a brand new word. The main prefixes we worked with were:
dis, non, pre, mis, un, re
One final and fun project was a prefix flipbook. Everyone was assigned a different prefix to use in their book.
Happy Valentine's Day!
The party on Friday was a great time and we even got our exercise in! Here's the relay race we did...

Happy New Year!
We are going to get started on the right foot in 2015! Resolutions were made and actions will be taken in room 119! We all chose something that will better ourselves for 2015. We made

All About Non-Fiction
Our current focus is non-fiction texts and their features. We are trying to become very familiar with informational books, because we will be writing our own soon!
Piece by piece, we have learned about the different features and their importance. We worked as a class for a couple days, then we partnered up and did a scavenger hunt with a non-fiction book. The directions were to read the book and look for the important parts such as headings, maps, table of contents, etc. Once we found them, we had to write down the page number and how it helped us understand the topic better. It was a little trickier than we thought, but it definitely showed us how helpful the features are!
